Jolyon Cowan, MPH, has taught yoga at two of America’s leading holistic mind/body medical programs: the Mind/Body Medical Institute directed by Dr Herb Benson, and the Domar Center for complementary healthcare at Boston IVF directed by Dr Alice Domar. Jolyon studied Public Health at Tulane University and has had experience working in reproductive health programs since 1994.
In his teaching, Jolyon combines his public health background with his knowledge and sheer love of yoga. His teachers have included: renowned British Hatha Yoga teacher and Osteopath, John Stirk; Dr. A.K. Atre, the Kundalini yoga adept from Bangalore, India; Cambridge University medical anthropologist, yoga teacher, and author Françoise Freedman with whom he concentrated on reproductive health.
In addition to his yoga teaching experience, Jolyon has also worked and studied with the Yoga Biomedical Trust, in London, an organization dedicated to both the medical research of and teaching of yoga therapy, working with author and research scientist, Dr Robin Monro.
He has enjoyed teaching yoga to participants of the mind/body medical programs for over 5 years. This work has led him to produce an audio CD geared towards individuals and couples trying to conceive. His gentle yoga classes are suitable for all levels. He has studied yoga since 1989 and taught it since 1997. Jolyon lives in Brookline, Massachusetts with his wife and son.
